BURNHAM YOUTH AWARD

APPLICATIONS FOR 2026 - OPEN 1ST JUNE
First established in 1998 by founding member of the breed Bruce Burnham and his wife (and fellow Brangus advocate) Barbara (Bimbadeen Brangus – Stud No. 9), this award continues to honour their passion for youth development and the advancement of the Brangus breed in Australia.
Since 2006, the Burnham Youth Award has been supported by Bimbadeen’s current owners, Mark and Amanda Salisbury, continuing this legacy by supporting young breed leaders and following recipients’ progress in industry and personal endeavours.
PURPOSE
The Burnham Youth Award empowers the next generation of Brangus breeders by providing recognition, financial support, and development opportunities. It is regarded as an entry pathway for emerging Brangus enthusiasts, offering producers opportunities as they step into the seedstock industry and build networks and connections.
WHAT THE AWARD OFFERS
The successful applicant receives:
- $1000 bursary
- A personal trophy
- Recognition with name engraving on the perpetual Burnham Youth Award Trophy
Bursary may be used toward:
- Purchasing semen or embryos
- AI or reproduction program costs
- Genetic Testing
- Stud or commercial females
- Marketing and branding of stud cattle
- Herd development tools
- Industry opportunities
The allocation should directly support the recipient's growth as a breeder
Industry opportunities may include:
- Associate Judging invitations
- Attendance at industry relevant event
- Mentoring pathways with experienced Brangus breeder
The award is presented annually at the ABCA Annual General Meeting in Rockhampton which recipients are required to attend.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must be under the age of 25
- Applicants must be financial Youth (or Full) members of the Australian Brangus Cattle Association
APPLICATION PROCESS
To apply yourself, or nominate a young member you feel is worthy of this award, simply:
Submit an application detailing the nominee's:
- Involvement in the Brangus breed and the broader beef cattle industry
- Achievements and successes with Brangus and within the broader beef cattle industry
- Future agricultural aspirations
- Nominee's aspirations for the future in the Brangus breed.
Applications are to be in written format and may be either mailed or submitted electronically
