Ekka 2023 Prime Beef Entries Now Open and Class Changes

Dear Exhibitor 

The RNA Beef Committee is delighted to announce that entries are now open for the Royal Queensland Show's (Ekka) Prime Beef Competition. 

There have been some changes to the competition for 2023. NEW
Single Heifer classes have been introduced, to reflect industry changes. 

The RNA Beef Committee has also
adjusted the weight ranges for the below classes, again reflecting changes in the industry. 

Weight ranges for Single Steer classes:

  • Class 19 Single Steer - 380kg to 430kg
  • Class 20 Single Steer - 431kg to 480kg
  • Class 21 Single Steer - 481kg to 530kg
  • Class 22 Single Steer - 531kg to 620kg
  • Class 23 Single Steer - 621kg to 740kg


Weight ranges for Single Heifer classes:

  • Class 24 Single Heifer - 380kg to 430kg
  • Class 25 Single Heifer - 431kg to 480kg
  • Class 26 Single Heifer - 481kg to 530kg


Weight ranges for group classes:

  • Class 27 Pen of 3 Steers or Heifers - 380kg to 430kg
  • Class 28 Pen of 3 Steers or Heifers - 431kg to 480kg
  • Class 29 Pen of 3 Steers or Heifers - 481kg to 530kg
  • Class 30 Pen of 6 Steers - 400kg to 530kg
  • Class 31 Pen of 6 Steers - 531kg to 620kg
  • Class 32 Pen of 6 Steers - 621kg to 740kg

Last week it was announced that Prime Beef Competition judging is now taking place during Ekka Beef Week, being held on Thursday 10 August at Silverdale Saleyards.

DNA TESTING PROCESS ABCA have made the following changes to the DNA Testing Process to implement an effective and efficient process. By implementing these changes, the DNA testing process can become more efficient - resulting in quicker sample arrival at the lab reduced risk of sample damage minimized discrepancies ultimately benefiting the members and enhancing overall experience Members are asked to adhere to the following process when submitting requests for DNA testing.
