2020 BRANGUS YOUTH CAMP

The inaugural Brangus Youth Camp was held in Biloela, Qld this week, with wonderful support from Brangus breeders and cattle producers across the eastern seaboard despite the difficult season most are currently experiencing.

Over 50 participants took part in the action-packed three days. They aged in age from 5 to 21 years and travelled from as far afield as Melbourne, Victoria (to the south) and Springsure (west) and also included St Brendans’ (Yeppoon) School Cattle Team.

Support was very strong from within ABCA membership, with many Brangus studs involved in a variety of capacities, from organisers, cattle providers, judges, speakers, sponsors and participants.
Cattle used during the event were loaned by Central Qld producers and some participants (such as 21 year olds Lachlan Trustum, Casino NSW and Henry Sinnamon, Jackson, Qld, travelled and exhibited their own cattle.

The three-day event was held at the Biloela Showgrounds, and featured a wide offering of practical, technical and education sessions which included:

o Parading/Ring Etiquette
o Animal Structure
o Show Box and Shed Preparation
o Rope Tying Tricks
o Grooming and Clipping
o Prime and Stud Judging
o Breaking In & Handling
o Nutrition
o Breedplan
o Tag management systems
o Parading

Tessa Pearson from the ABCA office also attended and held workshops on DNA and sample collection and assisted organisers behind the scenes. ABCA board members Amanda Salisbury and Megan Hansen also attended and congratulated all involved in the organisation and success of the event.

“The ABCA recognises the huge effort put in to make the event such a success – from the organising committee and their partners to presenters, cattle providers, those who helped in kitchen and sponsors,” said Amanda, who thanked the organisers on behalf of the ABCA.

“It was exciting to see so many families and youngsters get involved with this event – the energy was great and I expect to see many of the young faces there involved in our industry for many years to come.”
